Do providers accept insurance?
It depends on the provider and on your insurance plan. You can search our directory using an insurance filter. But if you have out of network benefits consider looking into what your plan covers. You will have more options to work with people that may not be in your insurance plan. The idea is to find the best therapist for you and what you need!
How do I choose the best therapist for me and/or my family?
We recommend having a conversation first with a few different providers. Notice how you feel in your first conversation and see if you think you feel comfortable enough to talk and share what is going on with you. It’s normal to feel some anxiety, but after talking with them, you should feel somewhat reassured that you have done the hardest part – making the first phone call!
What’s the difference between a Psychologist, Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Psychoanalyst, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Psychiatrist?
All mental health providers must earn some kind of degree in counseling, psychology and/or social work. They also must complete internship hours and then take and pass their licensing exam. Each degree has a different emphasis, different course requirements, and different licensing requirements. Psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication.
What if I want to go online?
Many of the providers listed may be local to the Montclair, NJ area, however also provide online or virtual therapy sessions. Telehealth is just as effective as in person therapy. The most important factor for successful treatment is to do what you prefer.
